Is ‘Madam Secretary’ episode 14 new tonight? Return, finale date speculation

We like to bring you something new every week with our Sunday “Madam Secretary” updates, and we will start today with the broken-record reminder: There is no new episode airing on Sunday night on CBS. In a sense, you could argue that the network easily could have put one on the air tonight. There is no awards show or NFL game airing!

However, the reason why they have opted against this is ultimately rather simple: A desire to keep the episodes bundled together. Had they aired a new one tonight, it would be on an island separated from the rest of the season. The Oscars are on next week, so it makes sense that they would wait and air seven in a row starting on March 1. Maybe they are also scared of the “Saturday Night Live”40th anniversary special, even if we do’t see it getting ratings anywhere close to the 8.5 the Grammys did in the demo.

Since it was a quiet week on the “Madam Secretary” news front, we figured that we would go ahead and present to you what the likely schedule is going to be for the remainder of this season.

1. Since there are seven consecutive episodes coming starting on March 1, April 19 should be the one week that the show is off the air. Why? This is the week of the Academy of Country Music Awards on CBS.

2. There will still be two episodes still to air after this, which means that the earliest we could have the finale air is on Sunday, May 3. That seems about right, even if with the current schedule, the show will end a week earlier than “The Good Wife.” Maybe they push it back, but if they do, that just means that it will air on the 10th.
