‘Saturday Night Live’ 40th anniversary: Eddie Murphy, Amy Poehler, and other hopeful hosts
Tonight, NBC is airing their 40th anniversary of “Saturday Night Live,” and we know that there are many different former cast members that we would like to see. With that in mind, we are here to pose the following question: Which one of these cast members would make the ideal host? There are a few who will most likely be coming back in the months ahead, so this feels like an opportunity to list out five of our favorites who we want to see back on for a full 90 minutes.
Let it be known right now that this is not necessarily a list of people who have never hosted before. there’s no real criteria other than that they were very funny on the show, and it’s been a while since we’ve seen them host.
Amy Poehler – How has it been so long since Amy hosted the show? Maybe the problem has been “Parks and Recreation” filming in Los Angeles, but with that ending, now seems to be the perfect opportunity for her to come back!
Julia Louis-Dreyfus – Like Amy, she has hosted the show before; however, it has been almost ten years since her past appearance! In between “Seinfeld,” “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” and “Veep,” she may be one of the most successful pure TV stars ever on the series.
Bill Murray – It’s been over 15 years since we had a Murray-hosted show, and since he is still so firmly in the spotlight, isn’t this really the perfect time to make this happen?
Eddie Murphy – Obviously, this one is a no-brainer, given that he has never returned to the “SNL” stage in several decades before tonight, and we know the extent of his talent. This could be really fun, and a win for all parties involved.
Tracy Morgan – His body of work is obviously tremendous, but more than that, this would be a great opportunity for him to prove that he is back after that near-fatal car accident. While he is probably not at the point just yet where he can do something like an “SNL” hosting gig, maybe this could be a goal for a year or two down the road.
