‘Survivor: Worlds Apart’ castaway spotlight: Will Shirin Oskooi make an appointment on Day 39?
When it comes to being successful outside of “Survivor: Worlds Apart,” there is almost zero questioning to us that Shirin Oskooi has a whole lot to be proud of. She is incredibly intelligent, and apparently was instrumental in making Google Calendar into the global success story that it is today. She has since shifted allegiances over to Yahoo, and when we like to picture the structure of Silicon Valley in our head with all of its various companies i.e. tribes in competition, maybe it’s not that far off from “Survivor” at all.
While we always wonder if someone with as much success as Shirin has outside the game can win, we do find ourselves rooting for her based on all of the information that is out there about her online.
Name – Shirin Oskooi
Age – 31
Location – San Francisco, California
Occupation – Yahoo executive
Tribe – Masaya a.k.a. White Collar
Strengths – Very smart, and very driven. You have to be both of these to succeed in the cutthroat tech industry. She knows and understands strategy, and she says that she has never been in a better place to play the game than she is right now. Also, don’t discount that she seems to be a diehard “Survivor” fan, and she may be able to think a couple of moves ahead of other players in Nicaragua.
Weaknesses – Obviously, we worry about the physical component to her game, since there is nothing in her bio that seems to suggest that she is particularly athletic. Also, being successful in the real world is an easy excuse to get rid of someone early, though we want to think that the White Collar tribe is smart enough to think outside the box if they go to tribal council.
Past “Survivor” comparison – She goes with Sandra Diaz-Twine and Rob Cesternino. Both are good choices; one person won the game, the other would have won the game if “The Amazon” was a final three. Personally, we see her more like Cirie Fields mixed with Marty Piombo, another former contestant with Yahoo connections.
Prediction – Shirin seems primed to do well in the game. She’s right that she will probably be underestimated early, but she comes from a cutthroat line of work, knows the show, and does not seem afraid to make moves. With that being said, she’s not going to be betraying alliances left and right just because someone tells her that this is the only way to win. She’ll be cautious.
