‘Saturday Night Live’ repeating first episode with George Carlin, Andy Kaufman, more

SNL -For all of those who love “Saturday Night Live,” tonight is going to be an interesting opportunity to step into a time capsule. Typically, NBC airs repeats of current-season episodes on the weekends where there is not a new show, but in leading up to the 40th anniversary special on Sunday night, they are doing something a little bit different.

The network tonight is actually replaying the very first episode to ever air all the way back from 1975, and the host of it is none other than George Carlin. There were actually multiple monologues featuring the host over the course of the night, and for your viewing pleasure, we’ve included one of them below. What is rather striking about this one to us is just how much the humor in this still feels like the humor of the present. Carlin jokes about airport security, what dogs do on their day off, and that weird piece of bacon you find under many of the good pieces.

This is a show that has clearly evolved quite a bit from that very first show so many years ago, but the goal of it is still the same: To try to entertain, occasionally make a few statements, and to let you potentially see some talent that you may not have been all that aware of beforehand. We don’t even have to sit here and list out all of the extremely-famous people who have come through this show over the years; it’s a pretty endless list, and many of them should actually be back to help the show celebrate even further.

We’ll be covering the big anniversary live tomorrow night, so be sure to come back soon for more on it at the link here.
