‘Constantine’ finale review: Did someone betray John?
Tonight, “Constantine” aired an episode that had a variety of different motives, and apparently, one of them was getting to see Zed knocking someone’s head around. Who doesn’t love that as a good time?
Tonight’s episode was eventful to say the least, and it left us on a pretty cruel cliffhanger: Manny seemingly opting to go against John, and rescue Papa Midnite of all people. What gives here? Well, we wish that we knew. John has been a fairly loyal guy to date; while he has his flaws, he’s definitely not the guy you want to turn your back on here!
From the standpoint of fun, we liked seeing jealous John, just as much as we’ve enjoyed seeing his chemistry with Zed grow and evolve over the course of the season. Given that this character was not even a part of the pilot, we have seen quite a bit of evolution here.
On a different note, how about the new jacket? Someone call “Fashion Police” for their thoughts! Okay, not really.
Overall, this episode did not feel like a series finale. There is clearly more of John’s journey to tell here beyond this episode. It would be an abrupt and really disappointing way to say goodbye. What we at least saw in the final five or so episodes is that this is a series at least worthy of some more time to further tell this story. At least we felt like the cast and crew really gave it their all here to give us something enjoying. Grade: B+.
