‘The Walking Dead’ season 5, episode 10: See Norman Reedus’ Daryl in ‘Them’ (photo)

AMC has kept up a tradition already when it comes to “The Walking Dead” this winter: Releasing some new promotional photos in the days leading up to a new episode.

Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot to take away from this shot of Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) from the upcoming “Them,” other than saying that he is doing what he can to move onward with his life. Unfortunately, that is no easy task. He lost one of the few people who was truly close to him in Beth during the midseason finale, and to add insult to injury, the group lost Tyreese in this past episode. He is one of group’s premiere assets physically, but is his mind going to be in the right place?

What makes the Daryl story now fairly interesting is that it is still somewhat unclear just where his head is at, since he was not much of a focus of the past episode. We’ve still yet to really see how he and Maggie are each handling life, and figuring out the best way for them to survive.

In the end, what all of these survivors need is a little bit of hope, and something to cling to. We don’t really imagine that they are going to be getting this from Daryl right now; instead, he may need someone else like a Michonne to cling to. Interestingly, she has become of the more optimistic people of the entire group, and that may be because she has already been throughout the emotional fires and came out on the other side.
