‘Shark Tank’ video: The Gold Rush Nugget Bucket shocks Kevin O’Leary
Tonight, “Shark Tank” returns with a new episode that will feature a variety of different products, but in the latest sneak peek below (via The Hollywood Reporter), the Gold Rush Nugget Bucket takes center stage.
When it comes to function, the entrepreneur behind the product gives a good demonstration of what makes this better than your typical gold-panning kit. Rather than having to go through countless piles of dirt, this helps to concentrate a larger amount of dirt, and allows you to find gold so much faster than you typically would under other circumstances. This could be a good product for families that are out on vacation, or maybe some people out there who fancy themselves amateur gold-hunters. We’re not quite sure that we can see some of the hardcore enthusiasts with it, since they may have even more advanced methods that we don’t quite know about.
There are two problems that we see almost right away with this.
1. How big is the market? Not every family is going to be out hunting for gold. You’re dealing with a small percentage of families, and one of these kits is $99. Meanwhile, you can get some other, more basic, kits online for around $30. They may not be as effective, but we’re not sure families will care.
2. What are the sales? Kevin O’Leary looks shocked to hear just how much money has already been put into this business, and that may be a warning sign to him if the sales are not enormous.
We like this idea for people who really want to find gold, but we’re not quite sure that the Nugget Bucket is going to strike gold with a shark.
