‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 video: Steven R. McQueen sent off by Ian Somerhalder, cast
On last night’s new episode of “The Vampire Diaries,” we had a chance to say farewell to the Jeremy Gilbert character in a rather sweet way. Was it perfect? Not really. Most of the episode surrounding him was rather sad, and we also ended up not really seeing the character and Bonnie having a proper goodbye. Given their history, that would have been nice … though it was clear that the show did not want to rush along her story just for the sake of this moment.
In the aftermath of this episode, The CW and Steven R. McQueen both want you to know that things are ultimately going to be okay. How else do you explain the videos that we have for you below? The first one is simply McQueen saying thank you to the fans for all of their love and support over the years. We feel like he would not have left the show were he fearful of his future, so we imagine that he’s got some other exciting plans lined up that are going to be pretty fun to see explored further.
Meanwhile, the second video features an impromptu farewell that was thrown for him on the set of the show after he wrapped, and it features executive producer Julie Plec praising him while surrounding by his cast members. We’re not entirely sure why Ian Somerhalder has become Captain America for the occasion (other than that Steven is a huge superhero fan), but we’ll just go ahead and roll with it.
While the choice to leave the show was McQueen’s decision, it is clear that there is still a TON of love and affection for him among the cast.
