Triumph the Insult Comic destroys Jimmy Fallon with Conan O’Brien, Nicole Kidman jokes
We love a good insult comic from time to time, and there are few better at this than Triumph. The famed insult comic dog puppet, voiced by Robert Smigel, made an appearance alongside Jack McBrayer on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Thursday night, and the results of this were both cringe-worthy and absolutely hysterical.
The game of the sketch was that the “30 Rock” alum was trying to speak with Fallon about the upcoming “The Jack and Triumph Show,” only to have the dog continually interrupt. At first, the gag was merely visual, with Triumph holding up magazines that were mocking Jimmy’s failed attempt at landing Nicole Kidman and also bandleader Questlove’s hair. Then, things got truly awkward when the dog went on a full-on assault at NBC, ripping them for screwing over Conan O’Brien and then comparing Questlove to Conan’s former bandleader Max Weinberg. At this point, neither the drummer nor Jimmy looked altogether pleased.
While we’re not entirely sure how much the audience loved it, we were howling over it. The funny thing about it is that in the end, Conan probably has a better situation now than he would at NBC. He has more creative control, and we’re pretty sure his hilarious sauna visit with Steven Yeun earlier this week would have never happened if he was still on network television. Still, it is great to joke about given how the network really did not give him that much of a chance.
Another stellar joke in here? That potentially, Jay Leno was standing backstage with a “piano wire” ready to take Jimmy out, presumably to get the show back.
