‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 spoilers: Steven R. McQueen reflects before last episode

In just a mere matter of hours, “The Vampire Diaries” will be airing its latest new episode, and as a viewer, we will be forced to confront something that is still a rather difficult thought: Losing Steven R. McQueen as a series regular. While we have enjoyed watching him over the past six years, all things do come to an end. For him, his particular end just happens to be coming a little bit sooner than what some point would want.

It was McQueen’s decision to leave the show, and this appears to have been a choice that he did end up making prior to really even getting going with filming. The good news that came out of this is that it did allow for the opportunity to tell a farewell story that was meaningful, and that he had a chance to say farewell to many characters. This is something that he explained in full during a part of his farewell interview tour to Entertainment Weekly:

“I knew I was it was my last season [and] this was my last episode and I got scenes with everybody and got to tie up loose ends and say my goodbyes … It was very sweet.” 

As we have said recently, the door is still open for a Jeremy return to the series at some point in the future. Whether or not he wants to return is something that is entirely up to him, and the only thing that we can hope for during this episode is for some greater closure between him and the Bonnie character, who last we saw was still separated from the group.
