‘Bates Motel’ season 3 spoilers: Is Norma finally catching on to Norman’s past?
Nobody has become a master of repressing quite like Norma on “Bates Motel.” She really does want to believe that Norman Bates is still this young, innocent man with nothing in his heart but a desire to please. She doesn’t want to see what is, to borrow a term from “Dexter,” his dark passenger. From her vantage point, she has that firmly locked away in a trunk somewhere.
A&E recently released their full synopsis for the third season, and we feel like this paragraph below is extremely telling about how Norma starts to realize some of the truths regarding her son, and how some of her actions as a result of that could lead towards a massive wedge being shoved between mother and son:
“After a blissful summer of closeness with his mother, living within the safe confines of home and the Bates Motel, Norman’s fears about what really happened with Blaire Watson resurface and Norma questions what really happened. Forced to look at the truths about Norman for the first time, their deeply intricate relationship continues to evolve. Norma finds herself turning to the other man in her life, Norman’s half-brother, Dylan (Max Thieriot) and begins to rely on him in ways that she never expected. This relationship inevitably triggers jealousy in Norman and a new kind of love triangle between Norma and her two sons erupts.”
We have a good reason to worry for Norma here, given that we know where this particular story is going. With that being said, can we also say that we are equally worried for Dylan? He is very capable, but he may not see what is coming.
