‘Extant’ season 2 spoilers: ‘The Walking Dead’ alum David Morrissey joins
Clearly, David Morrissey is living up to the advice of his “Walking Dead” character The Governor: He’s found a new way to pay the bills!
Sources confirm that the actor has officially signed up aboard the Halle Berry series “Extant” as General Tobias Shepherd, who we are hoping is at least somewhat different that the other famous TV Tobias we are aware of. (Go back and watch “Arrested Development”; here’s to hoping that Morrissey is not playing a never-nude on this show.) This is a big get for the CBS show, though we have not really seen an enormous correlation (at least so far) between being a part of the zombie drama and bringing ratings to other programs. Jon Bernthal, for example, failed to really lift “Mob City” to new heights with his presence.
This announcement comes one day after David made a surprise appearance on “The Walking Dead” as one of the people who visits Tyreese in ghost form right before the character dies, along with Emily Kinney (Beth) and the children featured prominently in “The Grove,” which to us remains the finest episode of the entire series.
“Extant” was a bit of a shock renewal for CBS to make, and we still wonder whether or not this was done in part as a way to ensure that they have some sort of consistency in their summer TV lineup. After all, it is not like they have another replacement that they can shove on the air right now that will draw better numbers.
