‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 6, episode 15 review: Sam and Callen in trouble again

NCIS: Los AngelesAfter 6 seasons of “NCIS: Los Angeles” we have come to expect Callen and Sam to find themselves in life threatening positions, but have we started to just assume that they will get out of every situation alive? Is there any real fear over losing either of these characters anymore?

The beginning of this episode puts us in a very familiar position: With Sam and Callen fighting for their lives. We have seen these two in this situation many times over on “NCIS: Los Angeles” and no matter what situation the bad guys put them in that puts their lives on the line, they always manage to get out of it alive and without any permanent injuries. We get that they are the main stars of the show and they can’t exactly kill them off (we would also be heartbroken to not have LL Cool J on our TV’s every week), but after 6 seasons the masterminds behind the show really have to find a way to make us worry that we could lose them.

Kensi and Deeks had their usual fun banter that we expect from them, but this time it was in the form of Deeks passing off takeout food as his own cooking and Kensi being negative over Deek’s new favorite organic food truck which turns out to be $18 frozen food.

We really want to see the more serious side of Sam and Callen’s jobs, and by that we mean we want to actually fear for their lives. They have an incredibly dangerous job and we expect as a viewer to be legitimately scare for them, and we almost never are. At this point we just assume that no matter the situation they will get out of it without barely an injury and while that’s ultimately what we want to see happen, we also what to feel like there’s some real skin in the game. Episode grade: C
