‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4 spoilers: A Cruella de Vil episode title!
We’ve been thinking for some time that there would be a Cruella de Vil episode of “Once Upon a Time,” and the reasons for it are fairly obvious at this point. After all, you’ve got a woman here (played by Victoria Smurfit) who is new to the series, and both Ursula and Maleficent are also going to have their moments to shine this season.
Well, this glorious news is now confirmed! In a post on Twitter, co-creator Adam Horowitz revealed that “Sympathy for the De Vil” (we see what you did there!) is the title for the upcoming 18th episode of the season, which we would assume is going to air in late April. This episode should give us a whole lot more insight into who Cruella really is, where she comes from, and why she is as cruel as she is, which is rather welcome given that we do not know very much about this character in this world. It has already been said that this character will need to be somewhat-different from her Disney counterpart, mostly because she has to figure out a way to fit into this world somehow.
It is thanks to the surprise factor of her being in the show that we are probably the most excited to see Cruella out of any of the Queens of Darkness. Plus, we like the mannerisms that we’ve seen Smurfit inject into the character already. She feels like she is making this character very much her own, and is not trying to replicate what Glenn Close did or what we’ve seen in the animated movie version.
The series returns to ABC on Sunday, March 1 with “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” but as always we will have some further news before then.
