‘American Crime Story’ spoilers: Johnnie Cochran will be played by…

FX -At the moment, you would be hard-pressed to find a show with a more ambitious cast right now than “American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson.” While we have yet to see a single episode of this at the moment, we continue to be in many ways enamored by the people involved here. Just think about it for a minute: We’ve got John Travolta, Sarah Paulson, and David Schwimmer! Even if you don’t love every one of these actors, the combination of them all may still be enough to make you intrigued (this is at least the way that we feel).

Now, we can at least add to the mix one other person of prominence in Courtney B. Vance. The former “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” actor has been cast to play defense attorney Johnnie Cochran in the Ryan Murphy anthology series, which will be comprised of ten episodes.

As of right now, most everything about this show seems solid. Murphy is one of the most prolific producers in the entertainment business these days, and almost everything he touches turns out to be a wonderful investment. However, at the same time we already admit that we worry a little when it comes to the commercial appeal here for a number of different reasons:

1. “American Horror Story: Freak Show” did not do too much to help Murphy’s reputation when it came out.

2. Is this really the sort of subject matter that mass audiences are interested in? We are curious to see the show, but this entire case was so played out that it will be hard to feel fresh.
