Ratings: ‘Empire’ sets another record; ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ solid; ‘Arrow’ impresses
For the most part last night, there were quite a few success stories in the ratings! How often do we really get to say that when it comes to primetime TV? It’s not particularly often, so let’s just leave it at that.
Once again, though, the biggest winner of the entire winter season is “Empire.” With a 4.6 rating last night in the 18-49 demographic, this show is saving Fox from the ratings cellar all by itself. This is great news especially for Taraji P. Henson, who we feel has already locked in an Emmy nomination. Popularity often goes a long way here. This show also seems to be helping “American Idol” (3.0) stabilize, which is somewhat strange. When was the last time that another show was actually helping “Idol” rather than the other way around?
Elsewhere, very good news for ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat,” which had a very solid premiere with a 2.5 rating. With this being said, we still feel like Randall Park has a big challenge moving to Tuesday nights moving forward. This night has been a ratings vacuum for the network over the past couple of years; just ask “Selfie” or “Manhattan Love Story.”
Also worth celebrating? “Arrow,” which scored with a 1.2 its best rating of the entire season other than its crossover episode with “The Flash.” Interestingly, its ratings have risen while those for “The Flash” have slid somewhat. Either way, it’s a great sign to see that The CW is getting consistent numbers now from their superhero shows.
The only bad news that came in from the network last night was courtesy of what we had with “Law & Order: SVU,” which again scored a disappointing 1.3. It’s better than “The Mysteries of Laura” (1.0), but still.
What do you think about some of these numbers? Let us know right away with a comment.
