‘American Idol XIV’ review: Jax, Adam Lasher, Joey Cook, Savion Wright all impress again
Tonight on “American Idol XIV,” Hollywood Week began! With that being said, this was obviously a very different sort of Hollywood Week than the one that we have seen on past seasons of the show.
Also, we appreciated the whole “Hollywood or Home” bit being given the guillotine, since it was terribly cruel to send people through, only to take it away from them before really getting much of a chance to shine. The way the show handled this was far better tonight, with most of the highlights from past episodes going through just on the basis of what they did originally. This included Adam Lasher, Jax, Joey Cook, Savion Wright, and even Hollywood Anderson, who got a bit of a reprieve tonight when his Adele cover was a little all over the place.
The second day did feature some more drama and eliminations, but we cannot really say that we lost anyone who was too big of a shocker right now. The likes of Courtney Guns and Tara Honda were not really standouts from the auditions, and were touchier decisions to bring this far. Some of the real drama is going to happen now in the days ahead as we enter Group Round, and the later performances were the tension is palpable.
We wish there was more to say about this episode (other than that Jax completely slayed it and may be even more of a threat than even Joey or Savion), but we’re never a big fan of this phase of the competition as a writer. There are too many people to keep track of, and so little time to get to know them and their talents.
