‘The Mentalist’ season 7, episode 10 video: A lighter moment (but death looms)

Tonight’s new episode of “The Mentalist” has us extremely nervous. While we are of course tremendously excited to see what the show brings to the table, it has already been made abundantly clear that “Nothing Gold Can Stay” also happens to be an episode featuring the death of an important character.

Who is it? There’s still no indication in the sneak peek, but we do have to say that we are worried for both Cho and Vega. For Cho in particular, though, this would be a heartbreaker. After Abbott made his decision to head east to Washington, he finally has the promotion he’s always dreamed about. The man even smiles to a certain extent! Why take him away from us now? This would be the most devastating move that the show could feasibly do, since they’re not killing either Jane or Lisbon so close to the series finale. Vega is someone we’ve only known for the past several weeks.

As for who else we’re worried about, think Wiley. We don’t know the circumstances that would be behind killing him, but his death, as with Vega’s, would illustrate the same point to Patrick Jane: This job may not be worth it anymore. Everyone wants to be a hero, but is there a certain point where you want to go on and live your life a little bit? Continually putting yourself at risk is a hard thing to consistently deal with, and you really need to have a whole lot of guts to be able to do it routinely. Jane’s always been a little bit more of a free thinker than someone who wants to commit to one thing for life.
