‘Switched at Birth’ season 4, episode 5 reaction: Show boss on Bay, Emmett’s future
Tonight’s new episode of “Switched at Birth” was, in a world, difficult. The show could have gone an easier route and painted what happened between Bay and Tank with an extremely broad stroke one way or another, but they chose not to. Instead, there was no real answer that is present. The question about whether or not she gave consent while drunk still lingers, and while some people feel strongly it was rape (see Regina), not everyone shares that opinion.
There are many different characters who are going to weigh in as the news starts to spread, but obviously one that many fans are going to want to hear comes from Bay’s love Emmett. When will this be addressed? Speaking to TVLine, creator Lizzy Weiss teases that much of the aftermath of this will be felt in the installment airing in two weeks’ time:
“The episode after the two-parter is almost the third [part]. That’s specifically, completely dedicated to Bay and Emmett dealing with it. Emmett finds out, and he has to be honest about how he feels and he has a lot of issues with it and the fact that it was her ex-boyfriend, the fact that she was drunk, the fact that they were in a big fight. So he has to go on a journey, as well, to put this to bed, if you will.”
Weiss also wanted to make it clear that she wanted to do a story about a “murky” sort of situation here, largely because this was more realistic to what many young men and women actually go through. Sometimes, there are cases that do not have that clear, black-and-white distinction.
