‘Empire’ spoilers: Rita Ora, Jennifer Hudson sign on

Clearly, Fox’s “Empire” is doing quite a good job right now of getting big names to sign on for the show. After all, how else do you explain some of the latest casting news?

According to a new report coming in today from E! News, both Jennifer Hudson and Rita Ora have signed on to appear on the show at some point before the end of the show’s first season. Unfortunately, there is no word as to who these two are going to be playing at the moment, but given the subject matter of this show (i.e. the world of music), it is very well possible that they could be playing themselves.

We definitely understand why big stars in music would want to be on this show, given that it has almost inexplicably become one of the biggest success stories out of the entire TV season so far. While it has a solid lead-in in “American Idol,” it has posted some of the best ratings for a new drama series in years. It is appealing to a different crowd than most other shows out there, and it is also encouraging people to actually watch live.

Do we expect the numbers here to drop over the coming weeks? Sure, but mostly because that is a natural tendency, and there is a ton of competition Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. With that being said, we do very expect there to be many more big-name castings announced at some point in the future. Plus, the show has already been renewed for another season.
