‘The Walking Dead’ season 5, episode 9 video: Watch the first two minutes!

In preparation for the midseason premiere for “The Walking Dead” on Sunday night, AMC has done us a kindness in sharing what is the first two-plus minutes of the episode. While we are grateful to have it, we cannot sit here and say that this is a clip that will put a smile on your face.

Instead, it is dark, depressing, and in many ways different than anything the show has ever done before. It features a series of jumps looking at the past and the present, and paints the picture for what is happening. Maggie (pictured) is understandably devastated, and Rick has to figure out how to chart a course of events now with Beth dead. He decides to ultimately try to honor one of her wishes, which was to reunite Noah with his family. In the process of this, it seems like there may also be a chance for him and the rest of the survivors to find a sanctuary of their own.

While this all sounds lovely, we cannot say that we are particularly hopeful it will work. We lost all semblance of hope for these people a while back. Any sanctuary is likely to be a brief one, but we cannot blame them for trying.

Details are scarce for these final episodes of the season, other than that we will meet more new characters, there are more events coming from the comics, and lives will hang in the balance. In other words, the same as the first half of the season.
