‘Hawaii Five-0′ season 5, episode 14 review: Why is Kono stalling on marrying Adam?
Steve wants answers about his mother’s whereabouts and after everything that has happened with Wo Fat, we can understand why he wants to find her. On last week’s episode of “Hawaii Five-0” Joe White revealed to Steve that he knew all along about Wo Fat and his relationship to Steve’s mother, but he’s done keeping secrets and wants to help him find her. After making a few calls, Joe claims that Steve’s mother as gone off the grid, but Steve doesn’t trust him and puts surveillance on him…. will he find out Joe is lying or is he finally telling the truth?
This week’s episode starts us off in a very familiar place: Adam questioning why Kono is taking so long to marry him and at this point we are starting to wonder what the problem is as well. He’s a wonderful man that loves her more then life and would do anything for her, so what’s the hold up Kono? She’s mentioned before that with everything that’s happened that she’s afraid to make such a huge commitment and then something happen where she’s going to lose him again, but he’s been back for a year now and nothing has happened. She tries to convince him that everything is so good between them right now that there’s no reason to rock the boat, but is marriage really something that will cause trouble? We are starting to wonder if Kono really wants to be married at all and if that’s the case will Adam stick around?
Adam calls Kono out on stalling when it comes to getting married and she admits to him that the reason she is hesitant is because of Adam’s father’s company. She says that she recognizes that Adam has done a lot to clean up the business, but there is still a few things that she has a real problem with like it still having ties to organized crime or the fact that the money used to start the company were stolen funds. She says as long as Adam is tied to that company she can’t marry him. Adam says that it’s unfair for her to ask him to sell his company when he has never once asked her to stop being a cop or put conditions on her career even though he worries every day that something could happen to her. Adam also says that it’s important for him not to just sell the company while it has a black mark on it since it is his family’s legacy – he wants to fight to clear the company and his family’s name. Kono doesn’t seem to hear him at all and stands firm on what she needs to move forward.
We like Kono, we really do, but it was very insensitive to force Adam to not only give up his career, but a business that he owns and a business that he is working hard to change. Changes take time and dumping something off because it started in a bad way isn’t always the right answer – sometimes patience needs to come into play. After coming close to death in this episode, Kono realized what was important to her and what Adam was saying when it comes to her job affecting him, so she decides to marry him – company problems and all. Episode grade: B+
