Super Bowl commercials: Anti-domestic violence PSA for No More campaign airs during halftime
Most of the Super Bowl commercials that we see on TV tend to be of the silly variety, and feature everything from mascots to celebrities in order to sell you their products.
However, the No More Campaign chose to air a public service announcement to speak out about domestic violence right after halftime, and there could not have been a more serious subject. It was obviously no coincidence that this spot, which featured a woman calling 911, afraid to speak the truth about what was happening, aired during an NFL broadcast. Domestic violence has been all over the news during this season of football. The Ray Rice scandal dominated the first few months of the season, but this was not the only instance of domestic violence that took place during the season. Just look at Greg Hardy and that situation.
We are sure that there are going to be some out there who complain and say that they want the Super Bowl to be entirely a lighthearted affair, but that would have not been the case even if this PSA had not run. There have been other commercials this year that have been more serious in nature.
This was important because it addresses a cause that is extremely important, and this the largest audience possible to share that message. NBC is also the right network partner; they air “Law & Order: SVU,” and Mariska Hargitay and many of the show’s cast members are frequent participants in the campaign. If you visit the link we included above, you can pledge to help end domestic violence.
Do you think that this was the appropriate place for the spot, and are you glad to see that the organization made this decision?
