Super Bowl commercials: Lindsay Lohan’s Esurance commercial arrives
You have known for a while that this Esurance Super Bowl commercial starring Lindsay Lohan was coming. After all, it has been advertised early and often. Lohan is a veteran of ads at this point, and she recognizes the value in them at this point in her career. Everyone knows who she is, and she has a tendency to make fun of herself often in them.
For example, we bring you the video below. It’s moderately entertaining, but at the same time, it’s almost awkward to watch given that Lindsay is effectively being rewarded for being known for a series of car-related problems.
The good – The idea of her being a “sort of mom” is an interesting concept to show how other insurance providers treat many the same. That concept is a smart one, and if all Esurance was looking for was publicity, then they probably got it by using her here.
The bad – While some may like Lindsay in here, it is a polarizing casting. A good comparison here would be the Kim Kardashian spot for T-Mobile that is already out there. Some are going to dislike the ad just because of the person in it, and may not want to use the company. They have to figure out if whether or not the risk is worth the reward. We’re not so sure that it is.
The verdict – The ad just feels a little distasteful for our taste. It’s not terrible or egregiously offensive, but couldn’t the company have come up with something creative without using Lindsay? We feel like it would have been possible.
