Super Bowl XLIX: Savannah Guthrie interviews President Barack Obama, drinks White House beer

NBC -Today, NBC News clearly showed a great deal of faith in Savannah Guthrie during Super Bowl XLIX. After all, they had her do what has been an annual tradition: An interview with the President of the United States.

This interview between the “Today Show” co-host and Obama took place in the White House kitchen, and by and large, this was a very different interview than what we have seen on the show in past years. Typically, this is a fairly hard-hitting chat about foreign policy, and a variety of important subjects away from football.

Interestingly, though, Obama and Guthrie spend a few minutes talking about deflategate and the big game before eventually getting to a few other subjects, including the recent State of the Union Speech. Guthrie did challenge him on a few subjects, including whether or not he was wasting time by introducing bills that he did not think Congress would pass. He defended his actions, and for a few seconds, things got a little heated. Both had a strange habit of interrupting each other, making it a little difficult to watch as a viewer.

In the end though, things ended on a higher note, and the two parties had a drink of what was apparently White House beer. Obama is the first President in centuries to have his own beer on the premises. She barely even sipped it! We’re not a big drinker, but we’d have no problem drinking one beer if the President was giving it to us. It doesn’t even matter what the party affiliation happens to be.

This interview is one part of the direction that NBC is going right now with Guthrie, who they recently signed to a new deal.
