Super Bowl commercials: Kim Kardashian creates a data ‘PSA’ for T-Mobile (video)
Now, let’s once again remind ourselves that Super Bowl commercials really love celebrities. This is why we see so many of them in these ads, regardless of whether or not people like these said celebrities. This is probably why both Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian each have ads during the big game Sunday night.
For this article, let’s take a look at #KimsDataStash, the new spot for T-Mobile highlighting how you can hold on to data for when you need it later, rather than seeing unused data go away at the end of the month. Is this a worthwhile spot for the company? Take a look at our take, along with the official video for it, below.
The good – Let’s start here by saying that if you are going to use Kim, this at least was a way that showed her poking fun in a way at herself, and all of the useless pictures that she posts online. This is really one of the best things that you can do with her. Also, the messaging for the brand itself is clear.
The bad – We wouldn’t use Kim. We feel like there are dozens of other celebrities you could use here to do the same exact ad, but have it play even funnier and have it be more well-received. With Kim being present there, it feels like many are just ignoring the message and focused instead on hating her. As of this writing, this video has a good 60% dislikes to 40% likes on YouTube. This is hated far more by the viewing public than even the Carl’s Jr. spot this year.
The verdict – America has spoken here, and they don’t like the ad. We thought that selfie portion of it was clever, but we don’t think what the company is advertising is all that revolutionary. Also, Kim’s not a brand ambassador for most of America. Grade: D+.
