Super Bowl commercials: Charlotte McKinney stars in Carl’s Jr. – racy ‘All-Natural’ ad (video)
We’re beginning our Super Bowl Commercials series early this year, mostly for one simple purpose: We want to ensure that we bring you every single important ad from the big game.
One that we certainly know is going to get plenty of attention this year is the latest Carl’s Jr. ad, which stars Charlotte McKinney (seemingly in the buff at first) promoting the chain’s first ever All-Natural burger made without adding hormones or steroids. There is a big push going behind this burger as a better alternative to the typical fast food, but in the end, this really does feel like every other Carl’s Jr. commercial that is out there.
The good – Obviously, this is a brand that knows what works. Scantily clad women may make these ads a little controversial or risque for some, but they’ve made headlines time and time again. Using an up-and-coming model instead of someone already famous also could have people searching to find out who she is, and in turn getting more brand recognition for Carl’s Jr. Smart move.
The bad – We’re not going to see the company getting many new fans for this ad that they don’t have already. Also, we’re not quite sure the same crowd who is watching this spot intently (i.e. dudes half-drunk and stuffed full of chicken wings) really care about the content of the burger. Given the nature of this particular product, we would have considered almost marketing this towards both men and women looking for a different alternative. Put a guy in there!
Overall – It’s more of the same for Carl’s Jr., except with a slightly different burger and a different model. Grade: C+.
