‘Downton Abbey’ season 5, episode 5 preview (PBS): Allen Leech, Elizabeth McGovern, and five teasers
While there may be the Super Bowl on NBC tomorrow night, that is not going to stop the likes of Lady Edith and Mary returning to TV. There will be a new episode of “Downton Abbey“! This is something that PBS tends to do every year as counter-programming to the big game; while the numbers almost always decrease, it does end up being one of the most-successful programs airing on a rival network.
In some ways, this particular preview is brought to you by the number five. This is the fifth episode of the fifth season, and we are continuing the tradition right now of bringing you five teasers all about what you can expect in the installment. There are no major spoilers ahead, but you should still be aware that if you want to go into this episode blind, you may want to turn away right now.
1. Remember that story about Branson (Allen Leech) and Sarah Bunting (Daisy Lewis)? Well, it is probably going to hit its peak during this particular episode of the show. Expect something to give here before the story comes to a close.
2. The same can be said for Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) and Simon Bricker (Richard E. Grant), which is something that we teased going into this episode.
3. Yes, you should expect even more romantic complications for Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery). If you are starting to get somewhat frustrated with her, we understand.
4. Be prepared to see Edith (Laura Carmichael) receive some help from a surprising source when it comes to her hopes to see her daughter more frequently.
5. As a whole, we would say that this is not the season’s most-eventful episode. However, much of this is important in establishing things to come later on in the series.

The Grantham Castle is really falling apart in Season 6. It looks like Season 5 will be the end for Tom Branson and Lady Rose as both seem t be heading to America to start a new life. Unless things change, it also looks like Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes will be tying the knot as well. So who knows, Season 6 may very well be the last season for Downton abbey.
