‘Call the Midwife’ season 4, episode 3 preview: Shelagh, Dr. Turner warn of dysentery
We would tease that Sunday night’s new episode of “Call the Midwife” will be a dramatic one, but this is something that should really feel almost universal at this point. After all, almost every new episode of the BBC series is dramatic in its own way.
Most of the problems that Nonnatus House tends to face, however, are on more of an individual level; what makes this particular one all the more interesting is that we are speaking about a problem that will really impact almost all of Poplar: The spread of dysentery. Dr. Turner and Shelagh hand down the warning in the sneak peek below, and advise that everyone be careful and exercise as much caution as possible. There have already been multiple confirmed cases already, and nobody wants to see a situation play out where this becomes an enormous medical crisis.
For those curious, we don’t imagine that this episode was inspired by any of the recent Ebola outbreaks, given that this was written a long time ago, before the disease was starting to draw headlines. Plus, this is a crisis that communities like Poplar would have been forced to deal with back in that era. While there were continued advancements being made in the field of medical, there is still a relentless struggle to ensure that diseases were kept from spreading.
Before this scene, you also get a brief preview featuring Patsy and Marie, a very pregnant woman who is spending time at an auto garage; as she is instructed, though, this is not an ideal place for a mother-to-be.
