‘Doctor Who,’ other BBC series to leave Amazon Prime’s streaming service
It was not that long ago that we first reported that “Doctor Who” and some other BBC series were at risk of departing Netflix. However, since that time a new deal has been struck, and the majority of your favorites will be staying aboard the streaming service for a long time still.
However, we cannot say the same thing for Amazon Prime. According to The Verge, the company’s streaming service will be dropping “Doctor Who” and many other shows from the network come February 15. The reason for this is because this company is really working to emphasize exclusive deals for their content, which is very beneficial for them business-wise, even if it is not exactly wonderful for the consumer who wants a wide array of programming at their fingertips. Amazon already has shows like “Hannibal,” “The Americans,” and “Orphan Black” (a BBC America show that will remain on the service), and also a robust lineup of originals that includes the Golden Globe winner “Transparent.”
“Doctor Who” is going to remain on Netflix and the BBC, so those are our suggestions if you want to continue watching it. Eventually, we do think we are going to get to a point where cable subscriptions are close to irrelevant, and you can just sign up for three or four streaming services to get all of the content you could ever want or need. You’ll probably save a little money in the process, and be able to utilize the services on all of your devices.
If you are waiting for more “Doctor Who” episodes, be prepared to keep waiting for a long time. After all, the series will not be returning until this fall at the earliest.
