Ratings: ‘Hart of Dixie’ season 4, ‘Blue Bloods,’ ‘Hawaii Five-0’ slide
Remember last week when we said that the big thing “Hart of Dixie” needed to avoid was getting a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic? Well … let’s just say that the news here is not exactly great.
For the latest new episode on Friday entitled “Red Dye #40,” which we personally found to be very entertaining, the CW series drew that 0.3 rating. This is its lower number of the series, and we don’t think we need to mince words that if that continues, the show won’t be back. The network has already renewed their entire fall lineup, so “Hart of Dixie” needs to give them a reason to bring it back. “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” can match this rating sometimes with repeats, and it costs almost next to nothing to make since you just need a theater, performers, a host, and an audience. Another factor could be the performance of new series “The Messengers” when it premieres.
The ratings news was not amazing for many other shows, given that we also saw “Blue Bloods” and “Hawaii Five-0” each decline in their own way to 1.3 to 1.4 ratings. Still, we feel pretty confident that at least one of these shows, if not both, will be back. For “Blue Bloods,” we cannot envision CBS ordering another drama that is going to pull this demo rating at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, and still consistently draw close to 12 million viewers. We know that advertisers are looking for younger viewers, but at a certain point, having this many older viewers does mean something.
For those wondering, “Shark Tank” won the night with a 1.9; “Glee” (which is ending) drew 0.7, and “Constantine” (which is sure to be canceled) drew a 0.8.
