‘The Voice UK’ review: Meet Olivia Lawson, Sharon Murphy, the Mac Bros., and more

Voice -The blind auditions continued on “The Voice” UK Saturday, and while we are extremely hard on this show the majority of the time (and typically for good reason, we have to say that we rather enjoyed what the series brought to the table tonight! There were many very good performances, and at least a few acts that we can really see going deep into the competition.

There were a ton of artists who didn’t make it past the first audition, and we’re not going to focus on most of them (generally because there was a reason that they didn’t advance more often than not, sorry to say).

Tim Arnold – A big story, and a nice voice. The only thing that frustrates us about these packages is listening to some coaches backpedal about not turning their chairs around when they had a definite opportunity to do so. If you wanted him, why didn’t you make the effort? He’s on Team Ricky Wilson regardless.

Kim Alvord – The latest member of Team Tom has more than a good voice; she’s like a spark plug of personality! Cannot wait to see what the dynamic here is like watching these together over the course of the episodes ahead.

The Mac Bros. – We loved this! It felt a little folksy, a little rockabilly, and these guys just had a great energy and personality about then. Rita Ora should compliment them perfectly as a mentor.

Hollie Barrie – Her name is almost that of a Halle Berry impersonator, isn’t it? We personality love that she chose to perform “Timber,” given that it is the last song we ever really expected to see on this show. She got multiple turns, including a certain will.i.am. This was her choice!

Morvie Brown – the latest member of Rita’s team has a tremendous voice, and seemingly the approval of the other coaches. They realized the mutual connection was there, and they didn’t even bother.

Rose Iamele – Team Tom got a new, very intriguing performer who comes from an interesting background, and we feel could do a variety of different genres.

Sharon Murphy – This was all sorts of beautiful, and after the “Parenthood” finale, we’re not sure that we were ready to hear another performance of “Forever Young.” Tom is perfect as a coach for her, since he can really tap into some of that emotion.

Dtwinz – Typically, we hate it when groups, acts, performers, and the like decide that they are going to put a Z at the end of something, almost as though they think that they are being really creative or kitschy. Typically, it’s annoying, but we’re okay with it here. Our big concern is that they were a little all over the place. Rita Ora has her work cut out for her.

Cai Williams – A very good performance without a doubt, but we must admit that we’re still trying to figure out just what was going on with that shirt he was wearing. Major situation that needs to be corrected soon. Tom Jones can help him with that.

Olivia Lawson – The final performer of the night, and one of the best. When you consider her age (17) and her talent, she may be one of the best chances for this show to have a breakout star. She may also be Rita’s biggest acquisition to date.
