Why Justin Bieber is doing a Comedy Central Roast; Ellen DeGeneres turns it down
As you probably heard by now, Justin Bieber has decided that he wants to be the target of some comedy fire courtesy of an upcoming Comedy Central Roast. Without a doubt, the guy has some guts for doing this, and we say that as someone who has not exactly been easy on him over the years.
With this being said, do we feel the same way about the sort of comeback trail that he seems to be on right now? We’re not so sure, but he showed up on “Ellen” this week in order to help her celebrate her birthday, and to also explain that he is on the right path again. He admitted that the roast is an opportunity for him to own up to a variety of his mistakes, and show that the public perception of him is not fully accurate.
From a television perspective, what is interesting about this is that Ellen claims that Justin’s manager Scooter Braun actually invited her to be a part of the roast when it tapes in the weeks ahead, but she decided to say no. What’s the reason for that? According to her, this is not just something that she is interested in doing, because she doesn’t like to use comedy to be mean.
We expect the panel of roasters at the show to be a mixture of people who have some sort of past tie to Bieber, and then also a number of Comedy Central favorites a la Nick Kroll or Amy Schumer. For example, the James Franco Roast had these two comics, but also the likes of Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen.
We’ll have more scoop on the roast as it comes out, so stay tuned for a little more. Also, sign up now to acquire some further TV updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
