‘The Mentalist’ season 7, episode 10 preview: Is someone going to die?
Tonight’s new episode of “The Mentalist” entitled “Copper Bullet” contained quite a few surprisingly warm and fuzzy moments. Unfortunately, some of those were probably taken away by the preview for “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” the episode airing on CBS next week.
We’re hopefully going to have a promo below very soon, but for now, the tease about an agent potentially losing your life is something that you should be very worried about. Given the title, we admit that we expected something potentially bad to unfold in this episode, but we had no idea that it was going to be this exactly. We’re nervous, given that this show has no problem with big, bold moves.
For some more scoop on what to expect, take a look at the attached synopsis:
“Jane takes extreme measures as the team tries to apprehend a deadly gang of armored car robbers before their desperation to remain free costs more innocent people their lives.”
We’re almost afraid to make many bold predictions, but the one thing that we can say with some confidence is that we are probably not going to see either Jane or Lisbon bite the dust. It would just be too sad given the nature of the show, and how long it has been on the air. (Also, they’re seen talking about the death after the fact.) We feel like we would be more concerned for the newer characters, with Cho serving as an outside possibility, as well. (Personally, we’d prefer to see most of the longtime cast members make it to the series finale, but it is hard to always have control of that.)

I am not convinced anyone really dies. I may be in denial because I really really don’t want any of them to be killed off. But I have seen many promos for TV shows that made me believe a certain thing was going to happen and then it didn’t. Maybe they fake an agents death to catch a criminal. Jane had that done before when trying to catch Red John. It just sounds like the kind of Patrick Jane trickery were used to. I also hope if they do kill an agent that the death isn’t caused by one of Jane’s plans failing. The funeral scene could be for someone that is not one of the main characters. I am trying not to think about it too much because I know I will be really really disappointed if any of the main characters are killed.

Well for one thing, the flag on the casket is a military funeral honor. So my guess would have to be either Cho (Army) or Abbott (Iraq war veteran). These are the only two possibilities that make sense to me.

I thought I remember Vega being military too?

Vega was never military, she trained but never finished, I’m pretty sure that is what she tells Jane earlier this series but the funeral doesn’t look full military either. There is the flag on the coffin but that is the only obvious feature and that is the standard for the family of military and veterans too. Her father was a soldier of some description so Vega would qualify too. Maybe they will throw a curve ball and it will be none of them, all a set up but in a way that would be even more disappointing than a death, it’s a soft option.

I cannot advance a guess about who will be killes off since I feel this season is advancing towards a mockery of the loyal fans. A death or maybe several deaths of protagonists are very predictable endings to a series the death of which has been announced by its creators. They certainly want to bury the Mentalist so deaths are fitting endings. By the way has anyone looked at doom and gloom Gotham?

I think Gotham is brilliantly done and not sure if you know yet or not puma, but it just picked up for season 2 woot!

As someone who has watched each season of this show more times than should be legally allowed, it’s difficult to make a judgement call on who they will off next week because the overall dynamic of the show has changed so much so quickly. It’s not Jane or Lisbon, obviously, because he’s telling Lisbon it could have been her. You’d think just for irony it could be Abbott or Cho, because they both just got their giant news of relief. Cho is promoted, Abbott’s name is cleared and he and his wife are going to DC. As predictable as this show has been in the past, they’ve done a really good job reinventing how the stories pan out this season.
That brings us to Vega and Wiley. We have seen Vega act on impulse several times, going against orders, wrecking cars, tackling suspects. There’s no doubt in my mind she is a capable badass member of the team, but she’s not known for thinking things through or playing it safe. She wants to prove herself, and whether she realizes it or not, she’s already evaded injury/death/termination from the team enough to stick out. At least to me.
Wiley is gung ho about all the projects Jane has him work on, but his character calculates everything he is doing. You can tell when he’s on the phone with Jane getting asked to do a favor. If Jane says, “I need you to look for suspicious phone activity” to anyone else, they don’t ask questions about specifics, and if they do, it’s not a focal point of the scene. However, with Wiley, it seems that they are showing that while he is ready to do anything Jane asks, he wants to know exactly what to do so that he doesn’t make a mistake, no matter how small.
Or Wiley could take a bullet for Vega.
Or I’m completely wrong. Sorry.

I hadn’t thought of Wylie taking a bullet for Vega but that sure is a possibility:(
I don’t think this show is predictable. I find many shows to be predictable but not this one. One thing is for sure I for one never expected the FBI to come in and dissolve the CBI and treat Lisbon and the team like criminals.

It has been far from predictable ever since Red John died. Maybe predictable is the wrong word, but prior to that, there were a few episodes that seemed more like they were following a pattern instead of being creative. And I’m not saying it was bad, because I still loved it. :-)

I’m thinking it is sort of set for it to be Wiley or Abbott. Abbott does seem too simple since he is already slated to leave but that would fit a pattern I think that fits characters often before they are offed. Having just been saved from prison by Jane’s tricks last week, he has just had a significant bump in character and future…just the formula to make his death all the more meaningful in terms of impact.
On the other hand, Wiley has been pining after Vega all season and she’s shot him down or discouraged him seemingly without knowing at every turn. Now, suddenly, at the end of this last episode, she asks him to dance. Wiley puts up a bit of a fight but it is so clearly not intended as he’s clearly taken by surprise in a good way. His hopes of love have been rekindled, the audience loves the sweetness so WHAM he’s shot in the heart and the audience gets it in the feels.
I think it is not Vega or Cho for different but similar reasons. Cho is the veteran of the show in terms of supporting main cast members and I think this season being described as a Love Song to the fans by Bruno Heller somewhere I forget reading it can’t be so with a death by Cho. He, and hopefully the Rigsby family, will make warm, heartfelt appearances in the finale.
As for Vega, I think the opposite in her being the newest cast member who was just introduced this season is grounds for doubt that she’ll be the character to die next week. It would seem sort of cheap to introduce the new character this season so you can develop them a little and then kill them just so you don’t have to kill off someone else in the show for effect. I don’t think the writers would take that route…then again, I never dreamed we’d get Red John the way we got him either….

I’m also wondering if Vega really doesn’t have a thing for CHO deep down since he is the more strong silent type which I think is more what she likes! She kinda works for him though now and OFICIALLY WILL once Cho heads the unit! so it couldn’t lead to a romance and other than when he helps Jane, he is very much by the book! Anyone else agree disagree with this observation?

I think it definitely can’t be Cho, in the shot of Jane walking in what looks to be the funeral procession, I think that’s Cho in soft focus in front of him

Yes you are right. I think it must be Vega since during recording the final chapters weeks ago they said Josie Loren wasnt in the set anymore, another slightly possibility is Abbot. Cho, Jane or Lisbon cannot be neither Wiley because they need him as a tech-savvy

Yes, I am pretty sure it is Cho. I also think Vega is just in front of Jane. This leaves us with Wylie and Abbott. Since it is a military funeral, I would say it is Abbott…

I don’t think it is Abbott only because of the post filming interview with Rockmond Dunbar where he says he would be open to The Mentalist being renewed for another season because he enjoyed working on this show so much and would enjoy continuing. I suppose he could have been trying to throw people off but I just thought I would throw that out there.

And I think I saw Chosen partner too can’t remember her name..very brief shot at the funeral! The death that makes the most sense is Wiley! I also can’t figure Abbot due to what he just overcame in almost losing his career and his wife’s also! So I don’t think they will kill him the next week that would be TOO cruel man! Lol
