‘American Idol XIV’ video: Rocky Peter has a story to tell

There are going to be a variety of different singers who try out on Wednesday night’s new “American Idol,” but Rocky Peter is definitely going to be one of the people to watch. He definitely has one of the more emotional stories that we’ve heard so far this season.

Based on how explains this to host Ryan Seacrest, he ended up growing up in Nigeria after being abandoned by his father, and often had to beg for food or try to scoop some up from garbage cans in order to survive. Something eventually led to him finding his way back to America, and to where the auditions are taking place in San Francisco.

It’s a powerful story, but ultimately, that shouldn’t be what gets him a golden ticket. Rocky wouldn’t want a handout like that, since this show is all about talent. This is why we’re so happy to say that he has some! The guy can really sing, and it is with a very interesting tone and artistry to go with it.

Still, what makes him so intriguing is that there is definitely still something within him still to be told, and he comes across as very raw vocally. We expect that if he lasts long enough in this competition, he could have some better opportunities to truly show more of what he is capable of. Will a year be enough time for him to grow? We’re not quite sure, but this has to be his season. People with this sort of big story are hard to bring back, since they automatically re-enter the picture with a ton of fans built in.
