‘Criminal Minds’ season 10, episode 13 review: Jason Gideon returns, did Mandy Patinkin?

Criminal Minds -

Last week was a big episode for David Rossi on “Criminal Minds” as he and his daughter planned to go on vacation together so that they can get to know each other and grow their relationship. Instead David ended up at a funeral of a friend and his daughter met up with him there to help him through the tough time – it was a really nice bonding experience and we like where this story ac is going this season.

The murder of the week involves someone that the team knows well: Jason Gideon. With actor Mandy Patinkin now working over on “Homeland” (and expressing his regret for doing “Criminal Minds” in the first place), this was a death that many fans can’t be that surprised about.

So who would want to murder  Gideon? This was a personal hit considering that the person who killed him wanted Gideon to see his face before he died. The team is cf course devastated, but Spencer was affected the most

The team tries to retrace some of his last movements to figure out what happened and they learn that even in his last moments he was still trying to help to solve a case. A bullet he shot from his gun struck a picture of birds – a clue he left that was part of another case from many years back.

This was a killer that Gideon and Rossi were after and was never able to catch… until now. When the team finally finds the man responsible, Rossi has a moment with him alone and encourages him to take a shot at him so that Rossi can kill him instead of taking him to jail. This is one of the things that we really love about this show is that sometimes they push that moral compass to really make us think about what’s right and wrong.

For any fans that that were hoping that Gideon may come back some day (regardless of the things Patinkin said and his role on “Homeland”), we are sure that you are disappointed that his character is now dead. He was a great character and the show really did him justice. Episode Grade: A-
