‘So You Think You Can Dance’ season 12: First photo with Paula Abdul, Jason Derulo
The twelfth season of “So You Think You Can Dance” is premiering on Fox this summer, but we have a first look for you right now at something that is sure to generate attention: The new judging panel.
It was announced recently that Jason Derulo and Paula Abdul were going to join executive producer Nigel Lythgoe on the panel this season, which gives the show a more permanent feel than it’s had in the past. This image comes courtesy of E! News, and they all seem to be enjoying their time already … so far. If there is a positive to these additions, it is that both of them have guest-judged on the show before, and it’s not like they are completely new to the universe of the show. They also know at least a good bit about some fields of dance, though we don’t see either of them as the ballroom expert that Mary Murphy was.
We already admit to missing both Murphy and whatever guest judge would be in that third spot, but that is because we are a creature of habit. This is also a reflection of our disdain over the show’s new theme, which is to feature the dancers divided into two groups: Street dancers and stage dancers. We miss things when they were a little more traditional, but feel like this is a gimmick of sorts that was designed mostly to ensure that the network would get some attention to a show with declining numbers.
If there is more news related to the show before the premiere, we will have it for you here.
