Ratings: Did ‘Galavant’ season 2, ‘Resurrection’ season 3 odds improve due to finales?
There were a pair of finales that aired on ABC Sunday night, and while their futures are still very much unclear, we were left wondering whether or not their chances improved due to some increases in the ratings.
Let us begin here with “Galavant,” a show we feel has the potential to ultimately be one of those series pegged with the brilliant-but-canceled label. Last night, the season 1 finale scored a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is a solid improvement from the week before. Unfortunately, it is still far below the 2.0 it posted for its premiere. Ultimately, what may doom this show is just that viewers fell behind when it aired against the Golden Globes and the AFC Championship Game, and there may not have been enough time before that for them to become hooked on it. We’ll say that this is a toss-up for now, since we do see value in repeating this over the summer and giving it another go at this same sort of time next year. Even if it is canceled, we do still feel like there could be a potential landing spot for it somewhere else. This comedy feels like one that would work wonders on a streaming service.
Elsewhere, “Resurrection” ended its second season with a 1.0, its highest rating in quite a few weeks now. We feel slightly less optimistic here, given that the show has had two seasons already, and it probably a harder sell than “Galavant.” There was a cliffhanger at the end of the season involving Rachael’s child, but even with that, we do not necessarily feel like it had a terrible conclusion. This may be all we get, so we have to be okay with it.
We’re going to cover the odds of both shows for quite a while now moving forward, so be sure to check back frequently for some further updates when it comes to this. Stay tuned!
