Did you enjoy the premiere of “Backstrom” Thursday night? Fox is hoping that this show will become their next great crime drama, and based on some of what we’ve come to know about the show already, it is going to continue to slowly unravel the layers that construct Rainn Wilson’s character. After all, don’t we want to hope that there is a nicer interior there?
Well, we’ve got a first look for you below at the show’s second episode, which includes a familiar face if you are a fan of the brilliant “Enlisted,” and also a case involving arson that Backstrom gets a strong inclination about. Take a look at the synopsis below:
“Arson investigator Samantha Orland (guest star Angelique Cabral) calls upon the Special Crimes Unit for help with a case that gets escalated to attempted murder when a serial arsonist’s most recent fire involves a family. Although all evidence points to a local fire artist, Backstrom is positive their arsonist is someone they least suspect. The investigation takes a turn when the team discovers evidence missing from the crime scene and Backstrom suspects someone insides the investigation. Meanwhile, Backstrom gets tormented by childhood neighbors who stole something very special from him when he was younger and Valentine helps Niedermayer recover stolen evidence.”
We feel like this upcoming episode will be a huge test in two ways. Shows (other than “Empire,” anyway) tend to lose man viewers after they premiere. For “Backstrom,” this challenge will be amplified given that “Scandal” will be coming back on the air. The week after that, it will have even more competition in the form of the return of “The Blacklist” over on NBC.
