‘American Horror Story’ season 5 spoilers: What we know about Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, more

Tonight marks the end for “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” which is something that will describe right now as a particularly sad affair. While we have had problems with the season, there were also plenty of moments within it that felt like a serious glimmer of hope that this could somehow match the first two seasons when it comes to greatness.

So what do we know right now about the upcoming fifth season? Unfortunately not too much, save for the fact that the show is indeed coming up. FX already ordered a new season, and we feel like more details will be revealed at PaleyFest in March. This is the way it has gone in the past.

As for the cast, we do feel like Sarah Paulson and Emma Roberts are almost certainly out as series regulars, given that they both have big roles in “American Crime Story” and also “Scream Queens.” Jessica Lange’s status is also still unclear, and we are waiting to see about many of the other actors. It could depend ultimately on the story.

Early buzz suggests that we are shifting more to a present setting, and a shift that will be far more seismic in content and tone than what we had between “Coven” and “Freak Show.” To us, that is certainly good news, since we did at times feel like this season is regurgitating similar plots from past years.
