‘The Fall’ season 3: Gillian Anderson looks at show’s potential future

The FallAnyone who already finished “The Fall” season 3 on Netflix knows already that it had a heck of an ending, and one that sets the stage for plenty of ambiguity while we wait to see what the future holds. (Warning: Spoilers ahead!)

So could there be another season for the show? While Jamie Dornan’s future hangs in the balance after what happened to Paul, his co-star seems to think that there are chances for us to see more of the story, depending of course on a number of different factors. Speaking to E! News in a new interview, Gillian Anderson made it clear that the show operates differently than most American shows, and with one person writing every episode, all of that leads to a very difficult off-season dynamic:

“I think we can definitely do one, maybe even two more. I mean, I’m up for however long it takes to feel like we’ve seen everything we need to see … I feel like there’s a lot more there, there’s a lot more story to be told. There are so many different directions that we can go with it after this, as you’ll see how it ends. There’s a lot of questions. I guess ultimately it’s going to be how long—It takes up all of [creator Allan Cubitt’s] life, basically. He wrote all of them himself and then we’re in prep—It takes a lot longer to shoot them, not only because we’re in the UK and they take about 11 days an episode as opposed to eight, but it’s also a full hour and not 42 minutes. So, it’s a lot out of a person’s life, and so it will also depend on how long Allan thinks he can devote his entire life to it and not do anything else. [Laughs.]”

It may sound silly to say, but we really map out the show’s future like this: If Cubitt thinks that there is something more to put on the air, then make more episodes. If he doesn’t feel like he has another story that is up to snuff, it’s better to just end things now and quite while we are ahead.
