‘Orphan Black’ season 3: Could Tatiana Maslany go to a galaxy far, far away?
It’s clear that Tatiana Maslany is an exemplary actress. Anyone who watches “Orphan Black” knows that. So to hear that she is up for a particularly enormous role should not come as much of a surprise to anyone at the moment.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress (who really should be labeled an “Emmy-winning actress” if the voters knew what they were doing) has tested for a role in the upcoming “Star Wars” spin-off film that is being directed by Gareth Edwards, who recently helmed the “Godzilla” remake that became a box-office hit earlier this year. Joining Maslany in the battle for this leading role are Rooney Mary, Felicity Jones (“The Theory of Everything”), and many others who were not named in the report.
If Maslany scores a part, she would be far from the only big-name TV star to join this universe. “Girls” star Adam Driver reportedly has a key role in the upcoming Episode VII film directed by J.J. Abrams.
For those curious, we would not see a movie gig like this impacting the future of “Orphan Black” for the time being. The glorious thing about TV is that you only film so much in a year, and with cable, there is especially plenty of opportunities to go off and do other things. This gig could also potentially drive even more viewership to the series, which as a whole would be a net positive for a show that still needs way more attention than it is getting.
