‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 spoilers: Damon, Elena, and some moments of happiness

At this point during the run of “The Vampire Diaries,” the idea of some characters actually being happy feels like something very difficult to grasp onto. After all, just remember here that there have been breakups, death, new villains, new love interests, and a variety of other hurdles that have come in the way of almost every beloved couple being together.

For those who are longtime ‘shippers of Damon and Elena, though, we do come bearing some good news: You may actually see a little bit of time soon where there is no significant conflict! Speaking to TV Guide, executive producer Julie Plec teases that at some point in the second half of this season, you will see a calmer period for Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev’s characters in the midst of the chaos surrounding them:

“There was an entire honeymoon period of their relationship that we did not play on camera … We didn’t get to write it, they didn’t get to act it and the fans didn’t get to see it. As Damon and Elena are finding their way back to each other, in spite of all the obstacles that have been in their way, they’ve earned a moment of happiness.”

As for whether or not it will last, that depends on if the characters are really ready for the commitment. We feel like they are. After over five years of indecision, it is much more interesting to see how these two would handle a long-term relationship than how they would drift away and back to each other.
