‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 5, episode 16 review: Ashley’s proposal; Hanna set up

On “Pretty Little Liars,” we have learned many times over the years that heartbreak is not an emotion that is exclusive to the Liars. It is something that we have also seen time and time again with some of the other characters on the series.

With that in mind, let’s turn to what happened on tonight’s new episode with Ashley. Hanna’s mom received a proposal from none other than Ted, but she was not entirely sure whether or not to say yes due to her own indiscretions. Why can’t a parent on this show just be happy? Remember, this is what happened after Ella found out that the man she loved was a cheater.

Also, tonight’s episode “Over a Barrel” also taught us that pain and suffering could spread across one family in a single episode, as Hanna learned that the storage locker that was rented out was rented in her name. Not only that, but Caleb believes that Mona’s body is inside! All of this screams setup, which in turn screams that Hanna is going to be extremely screwed unless she can figure out a way to extract herself from this far-from-acceptable situation. She has her work cut out for her, and we can say that much with confidence.

As for the rest of the episode, is love really in the air? We’re not sure if we can say that, but there is for sure something brewing for Emily, ironically at the coffee store. She may be feeling alone without Paige, but she is still in a better place than Spencer and Toby right now, after he is starting to learn more about her secrets.

Overall, a solid episode with a few twists and turns, albeit not enough to blow us away. Grade: B-.
