‘Justified’ season 6 spoilers: Series boss on series finale, end plans
“Justified” has taken us down a twisted, super-entertaining road over the course of the past few years, but tomorrow night on FX, we are going to see what is effectively the beginning of the end courtesy of the final-season premiere. How is this story going to come to a conclusion? It’s a worthy question, and one we are still looking to get an answer about.
Unfortunately, there is only so much that we can say for the time being. TVLine notes that as recently as this past Sunday, showrunner Graham Yost was still not entirely sure how he wanted the story for Raylan and company to conclude. The site also posted the following quote by Yost on the subject of whether or not he wanted this final send-off to contain elements of everything we’ve come to love about the series over the years:
“That’s the goal. Action, emotion, everything. And we don’t want it to be too neat, and we don’t want to leave too many ends dangling when it comes down to the central relationships. We need to resolve things to a degree, but when people ask me what it’s going to be, I say very honestly that we haven’t broken that episode yet. So we don’t know exactly … We have some ideas, but it’s been changing week by week for the past three years. Listen, I’m someone who from the first episode thought, “How is this thing going to end?” So it has evolved over the years, but I would say the only thing is that the most important thing is that we remain true to Elmore Leonard and how he ended his story and the tone he tried to hit. It’s a very specific tone, and that’s our goal.”
To us, we feel like the lack of a precise ending right now is probably a good thing, and mostly because it ensures that the show did not stick with something they decided on in the beginning, which may or may not work for the show anymore. It instead is being born out of an organic place.
