‘Glee’ season 6, episode 3 shocker: Talking the Coach Beiste reveal

Beiste -For its final season, “Glee” is certainly pulling out all of that stops. Seemingly, that includes one of the more surprising twists that the show has presented to date.

What is this one? During “Jagged Little Tapestry,” Coach Beiste took a leave of absence from McKinley High for a very simple reason, and that was to complete a transition from a woman to a man. This was certainly a surprising reveal given the trajectory of her story over the years … or was it? This is a question without a particularly easy answer. When we first heard about this story (spoilers came out quite a while ago), we felt almost likely it was out of left field, and designed just to give Dot-Marie Jones a meaty story regardless of what her character’s history. However, think of it this way: Finding out this news does not change anything that Beiste wanted in the past. The attraction to men is still there, and the insecurity now makes a heck of a lot more sense.

Ultimately, what is important to us is that we get to see the Beiste character have a return before the very end of the story, and that there is a happy ending for the character. This is someone who has been through a lot, from bullying to abuse to heartbreak and much more. There is a very good person at the center of everything, but someone who has not exactly received many lucky breaks.
