‘Bates Motel’ season 3 spoilers: See Freddie Highmore, Vera Farmiga in extremely-creepy promo
Monday, March 9 is the return of “Bates Motel” to A&E, and the new promo below courtesy of the network is definitely all sorts of creepy. Basically, it reminds you of the general themes of the show, without actually giving you any real footage at all.
First and foremost, remember the inappropriate relationship that Norma Bates has with her son Norman. That is as clear as clear can be in the promo, especially that scene with Vera Farmiga’s character removing the jacket in slow motion. Then, you have the two characters sitting in rooms that could very well be interrogation chambers. As if none of this was terrifying another, Freddie Highmore’s character has quite the creepy grin on his face at the end.
Given that the title for this promo is “Becoming Psycho,” it feels like a pretty clear indication that the series is not looking to really shy away at this point from the transformation that Norman is making, and that we could see him almost completely realized by the time this season is over. In some ways, we see how the downside of this could be the show having a slightly-shorter lifespan the less time you take to turn Norman into the monster from “Psycho.”
However, the upside here is that you’re not spending a whole lot of time watching the show stay in one gear, which is definitely not something we’d want to see. We much prefer the show going full-tilt at a high pace, and with a variety of surprises at around almost every turn.
