Ratings: ‘Agent Carter’ falls in second week; is Hayley Atwell show in trouble?
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has obviously become an enormous hit on the big screen, there is still a little something to be desired when it comes to the ratings for their TV shows. “Agents of SHIELD” started with big numbers, but it struggled for a while to get the quality where it needed to be. Meanwhile, “Agent Carter” started solid, but is still having a hard time finding big numbers.
For its second week and third episode, the show drew just a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. While this is not terrible by any means, it is certainly possible that the show could lose next week to “The Flash.” The idea of a Marvel series on a major network losing to anything on The CW is not necessarily a great look.
Of course, the Hayley Atwell series has one thing that it can fall back on, and that is the Limited Series label that is behind it. If the show only lasts for eight episodes, it can say that it was never actually canceled. However, it can just say that the story already reached some sort of natural conclusion.
With that being said, we do want to see Marvel shows fare a little better, mostly because we don’t get the sense from any of them that the creators / showrunners are simply phoning them in to cash out. Marvel has done a very good job of really inserting as much love and care into their franchises as possible, and sometimes that means shying away from marquee characters in order to ensure that the quality is there.
