‘Twin Peaks’ revival gets Kyle MacLachan, becomes even more interesting

Showtime -It is one thing to continue along the story of “Twin Peaks” on Showtime so many years later; it’s another thing to snag one of the show’s primary stars for another run at it.

While at TCA today, the network confirmed that they are bringing Kyle MacLachlan back in a major capacity for the limited series event, which has David Lynch involved and is already being met with great fanfare by many. The actor added the following in a statement: “I’m very excited to return to the strange and wonderful world of Twin Peaks … May the forest be with you.”

To this day, “Twin Peaks” remains one of the biggest cult shows to date, and also one of the most polarizing ones out there. There is an enormous contingent of people who get excited by the very mention of the series’ name. However, at the same time there is also an equally-large contingent of people who are somewhat apathetic to the original show, or find it to be too abstract and far too confusing to really understand. We’re sure that the new version will do very little to change that.

Regardless, it is undeniable that this has to be the greatest commercial coup by Showtime in years to land a show of this caliber. While they may have many hits and “The Affair” may have just won a Golden Globe for Drama Series, they do not have the luxury of many familiar franchises. This immediately has the potential to be the biggest hit they have seen since the days of “Dexter,” which continued to draw good ratings even when the show went down the toilet.
