‘Top Chef: Boston’ episode 11 preview: Mei, George, Gregory, and a family visit

Top Chef -For many reality competition shows, there is something about the family visit that we always find ridiculously entertaining. After all, this is an opportunity to see where the contestants come from, and how they live away from the show.

While the emotional reunion moments are always good TV, isn’t it even more fun when the families actually get a little bit involved in the competition? We like to think so, which is precisely what makes the sneak peek below from Wednesday night’s new “Top Chef: Boston” episode all the more interesting. The final contestants in Mei, George, Gregory, and Melissa all get a visit from their family members, and then one of them ends up becoming a sous chef for the competition.

Some of these contestants are going to have a harder time dealing with than others. For example, Mei’s brother apparently does not come from the cooking world at all, and it is going to be a major struggle getting him to do anything close to the right thing for the sake of the challenge.

Out of these top four, though, we still feel good about Mei’s odds. She and Gregory have to be the frontrunners. Melissa has been solid but quiet, and while George has done well in recent weeks, it would feel a little strange for him to win. He’s a little different than Kristen in that he really did not have to do a bulk of the challenges this season due to the timing of his original elimination. She had to work her way back in “Last Chance Kitchen.”
